Cinemas

http://www.kinosoprus.ee/en
Kino Sõprus is a legend on its own – as the oldest existing cinema in Estonia, it has been continually considered the only real art-house cinema due to its non-mainstream and quirky film selection. The building, with its grand façade, was commissioned in 1955 at the height of Stalinism, and since it opened has received 6000-7000 visitors per day. Since February 2010 the cinema has been operated by NPO Black Hand and is mainly funded privately. The elaborate interior has been maintained and meticulously restored under the guidance of Mr. Markku Pätilä, set designer for most of Aki Kaurismäki’s films. Our biggest triumph is the awareness of the “Kino Sõprus” brand among the audience and that this cinema has served its audience well for 57 years. Kino Sõprus has regained its street credibility as a cinema where no compromises are made.
Our main strategy at the moment is to maintain and continue the tradition of distributing and exhibiting both classic and contemporary films that do not fit a standard multiplex format. Additionally, we have organized the space to provide for other forms of art, whether it’s music, visual arts, theater, etc.

In the biggest cinema multiplex of the city of Tallinn there are 11 movie screens with a seating capacity of 1,967. The five biggest screens, plus the luxurious A. Le Coq Suite, have been equipped with the absolute best cinema technology: digital projectors enable us to offer all the latest 3D-movies for our customers. Forum Cinemas uses the 3D-technology of the XpanD company, the most acclaimed provider of such digital 3D-technology. The 3D-effect is achieved with the special, so-called “active glasses”, which generate a multi-dimensional picture with the help of a digital cinema projector and the special 3D movie print.

Artis Cinema offers a selection of arthouse and other quality films in comfortable and modern surroundings. The 181- and 72-seat cinema halls screen primarily European films, but Asian box office smash hits and American indie films make an appearance as well.
